Prayer Lab 2.6: Seeking the Holy Spirit’s Guidance for Spiritual Gifts

Instructions:

1. Prepare Your Space:

   • Find a quiet, comfortable place where you can focus without distractions.
   • Have your Bible, notebook, and pen ready. You may also want to play soft worship music in the background to create a prayerful atmosphere.

2. Scripture Reading: Begin by reading the following scriptures to center your heart on God’s promises regarding spiritual gifts:

   • 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 – “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them... Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.”
   • 2 Timothy 1:6-7 – “Fan into flame the gift of God... For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.”
   • Romans 12:6-8 – “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.”

   Reflect on these verses as reminders of God’s plan to equip every believer with unique gifts to glorify Him and build up the church.

3. Guided Prayer Prompts: Spend time praying through these specific prompts, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide you:

   • Gratitude:
     • Begin by thanking God for the gift of the Holy Spirit and His work in your life.
     • Example prayer: “Lord, thank You for filling me with Your Spirit and equipping me with gifts to serve Your Kingdom.”
   • Confession and Openness:
     • Ask God to remove any barriers—fear, pride, or doubt—that may hinder you from recognizing or using your gifts.
     • Example prayer: “Holy Spirit, I confess my fears and uncertainties about my role in Your plan. Help me to trust Your power working in and through me.”
   • Revelation of Gifts:
     • Pray specifically for the Holy Spirit to reveal or confirm the gifts He has given you.
     • Example prayer: “Lord, show me the gifts You have placed in me. Help me to see how You want me to use them to bless others.”
   • Activation of Gifts:
     • Ask for boldness to step out in faith and use your gifts for His glory.
     • Example prayer: “Lord, I want to fan into flame the gifts You’ve entrusted to me. Give me the courage to serve, the wisdom to discern, and the love to honor You in all I do.”
   • Guidance for Service:
     • Seek clarity on how and where to use your gifts.
     • Example prayer: “Holy Spirit, guide me to opportunities where I can use my gifts to serve others and bring glory to Your name.”

4. Reflection and Listening:

   • Pause for 5–10 minutes of silent prayer, listening for the Holy Spirit’s voice.
   • Be attentive to any scriptures, thoughts, or impressions that come to mind. Write these down in your notebook.

5. Prayer for Unity:

   • Conclude your prayer time by asking God to unite His church through the diverse gifts of His Spirit. Pray for love, understanding, and humility among all believers.
